Pet Friendly

Got love for a fluffy friend? We do too. Hongkongers are crazy about pets, to the point that malls and venues dedicate zones and events to pets and their owners' mutual enjoyment. That being said, there are a few things you should know when considering adopting a pet here, or bringing yours over:
Pet-friendly housing
So, can I have a pet in my apartment? So long as the Deed of Mutual Covenant (DMC) does not explicitly say otherwise, you are good to go. But pet lovers tend to steer away from busy urban districts and instead opt for village houses, where there's more space and your fur babies can live closer to nature.
Finding a vet
Taking care of your pets' health is a top priority, and there are more than 600 registered vets and 150 vet clinics willing to help. The bills can be hefty, but for better or worse, insurance is essentially a part of life in Hong Kong. Pet insurance plans are a dime a dozen, so get your fluffy friend all the protection they need for when their health takes a turn for the worse.
Bringing your pet over
This may be an extended process, but it's perfectly doable. To bring your pet into Hong Kong, you'll need to apply for a special permit from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department. Thankfully, you can do it in advance via email, so be sure to fill it out ASAP if you're planning to bring a fuzzy buddy into Hong Kong!
